Doma United Triumphs Over Bayelsa United with a 2-0 Victory
Doma United kicked off their 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) home campaign in style, securing a commanding 2-0 victory over Bayelsa United in front of a jubilant home crowd at Pantami Stadium. Andrew Majalisa and Charles Terwar etched their names in the history books as they both netted their debut goals in the NPFL, propelling Doma United to their first win of the season.
After a disappointing 2-1 loss to Rangers in their opening match, Doma United was determined to bounce back and assert their dominance. Right from the kick-off, they created numerous scoring opportunities that kept Bayelsa United on their toes.
The catalyst for Doma United’s early dominance was the precision of Hillary’s long throws, which proved to be a formidable weapon. In the fourth minute, Hillary’s throw-in found debutant Nelson Abiam, who deftly flicked the ball across the goal, forcing a clearance that resulted in a corner kick.
Hillary’s magic continued to weave spells on the field as his pinpoint through pass found Emmanuel Ekpenyong on the right. However, Saifullahi couldn’t capitalize on the chance, firing wide.
The crowd at Pantami Stadium erupted in celebration in the 21st minute when Majalisa received a free-kick from Hillary and sent a powerful left-footed shot past the Bayelsa goalkeeper. This electrifying goal gave Doma United a well-deserved lead.
Despite Doma United’s relentless pressure, Bayelsa United held on to prevent further damage before halftime.
The second half witnessed Charles Terwar stepping into the spotlight. Thirteen minutes into the half, Terwar expertly volleyed in his first NPFL goal and secured his first goal for Doma United, doubling their lead.
Bayelsa United fought hard to stage a comeback, creating a couple of scoring opportunities. However, Doma United’s defense, led by Haruna Aliyu, held firm and denied their opponents any goals.
The match also saw some dazzling performances from substitute players Bidemi Owoku and Sani Suleiman, who entertained fans with their brilliant displays.
In a series of substitutions, Emmanuel Ekpenyong, Kazeem Abdulrafiu, Charles Terwar, Abubakar Abdullahi, and Hillary Ekawu made way for Bidemi Owoku, Sani Suleiman, Usman Musa, Emmanuel Jesam, and Jerry Agwu.
Notably, the game ended with only one Bayelsa United player and an official receiving yellow cards, as both teams displayed commendable sportsmanship.
Doma United’s will next be up against NPFL debutants, Sporting Lagos who beats Gombe United 2-0 in Match Day one of the NPFL.
