Federation Cup: Doma United Through To The Quarterfinal
Gombe based side, Doma United booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Federation Cup with a 2-1 victory over Edel Football Club of Anambra State at the Area three football pitch, Abuja on Wednesday.
Bidemi Owoku scored his first Federation Cup goal this season while Daniel Barnabas heads in his 3rd goal of the campaign as the Savannah Tigers beat Edel FC 2-1 to cruise into the quarter-finals.
Bidemi’s 8th-minute strike and Barnabas’ 12th minute header proved the difference as Akinade Onigbinde’s side made it three successive wins in the competitions, after the agony of missing out on the NPFL Super six playoffs last weekend.
United created more chances thereafter with both Zaidu and Ekpenyong Imoh coming close to scoring but all their efforts went wide. Jumbo sent in an inviting cross to beat even Barnabas but met the onrushing who Zaidu fires his shot wide.
Samuel Enefiok and Saifullahi Yusuf came in for Jumbo Wisdom and Daniel Barnabas in the second half for United’s first substitution before injured Zaidu Moh’d and Bidemi Owoku made way for Amos Stephen and Andrew Majalisa.
However, Kingdom was adjudged to have brought down Edel’s striker inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot and they were able to pull one back.
Doma United held on to secure their spot in this year’s quarterfinal of the competition.
Akinade made some changes to the team that played last weeked in the NPFL with Ezeobi making his first appearance in the competition in place of Maurice Chigozie, Daniel Barnabas who missed the previous game replaced Charles Chibuike, Jumbo Wisdom started ahead of Saifullahi Yusuf while Ekpenyong Imoh also made his debut as he started ahead of usman Musa.
