Doma United Suffers Crushing 4-0 Defeat to Bendel Insurance in NPFL Clash

In a disappointing outing at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, Doma United suffered a crushing 4-0 defeat against Bendel Insurance in the NPFL, extending their recent struggles on the field.

From the onset, Bendel Insurance asserted their dominance, controlling possession while Doma United found themselves forced to defend deep. Despite an early opportunity for the home side, as a shot from a winger missed its mark, Doma United struggled to gain momentum.

The first glimmer of hope for Doma United emerged in the 27th minute when Adamu’s pass found Jesam, but the subsequent shot failed to find the target. However, their optimism was short-lived as Bendel Insurance seized the lead with Abiam Nelson’s unexpected header from a freekick, catching goalkeeper Zalli off guard.

Adamu Umar Adah’s foul earned him a yellow card, further complicating matters for Doma United. Before halftime, Bendel Insurance extended their lead with a deflected shot off Auwalu Abubakar, leaving Doma United trailing by two goals.

Despite a late attempt from Manga, whose long-range effort missed its mark, Doma United entered halftime facing an uphill battle. Coach Akinade Onigbinde’s halftime changes, including substitutions and a shift to a 4-3-3 formation, aimed to rejuvenate the team’s performance.

Although Zalli showcased his skill with impressive saves in the second half, Bendel Insurance continued to apply pressure. Despite the host having two goals disallowed, Doma United struggled to capitalize on opportunities, with Isaac Nassy and Sambore Meite both causing trouble for Insurance.

With time running out, Doma United’s hopes were dashed as they conceded two goals in quick succession during added time, sealing their defeat. Junior Osaghae’s late brace for Bendel Insurance further compounded Doma United’s woes.

With the loss, Doma United now finds themselves in 13th place on the log, with only one point in the second stanza of the NPFL. Their focus now shifts to their upcoming fixture against home rivals Gombe United, as they seek to regroup and turn their fortunes around in the league.
