Doma United’s Unbeaten Home Run Ends in Disappointing Loss to Enugu Rangers

Doma United’s impressive run of undefeated home matches in the Nigeria Premier Football League came to a screeching halt on Saturday, as they succumbed to a 0-1 defeat against Enugu Rangers in Week 21.

The Savannah Tigers, buoyed by their spirited 3-2 away performance against Rivers United last week, entered the match determined to climb the table. However, their hopes were dashed by a 30th-minute goal from Enugu Rangers, which ultimately proved to be the decisive strike.

Doma United manager Akinade Onigbinde reacted swiftly after the break, switching formations and introducing fresh legs in an attempt to claw back into the game. The introduction of Usman Musa, Joel Okoro, and Saifullahi Yusuf sparked some life into the Tigers, with Okoro coming close to an equalizer in the 49th minute.

As the pressure mounted, Doma United suffered a blow with the injury of Jacob Manga, who was replaced by Jerry Agwu. Despite throwing everything forward, including Abiam Nelson’s header that rattled the crossbar, the hosts were unable to find a breakthrough.

Emmanuel Jesam, making his return after a brief absence, also succumbed to injury in the dying minutes, adding to Doma United’s woes.

Enugu Rangers, meanwhile, held firm to secure a vital three points, maintaining their dominance over the Savannah Tigers in the league. This marks the fourth meeting between the two sides, with Rangers boasting three wins and one draw.

Doma United will be looking to bounce back from this disappointing result when they travel to face Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Wednesday, 28th February 2024.
