Rivers United 2-0 Doma United: Match Report

Nyima Nwagua and Albert Korvah’s first half strikes gave Rivers United a 2-0 win over Doma United in the rescheduled match day 16 of the NPFL played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on Thursday.

In a game that started slowly by both sides, the first chance fell to the home side after the first five minutes of the game. Rivers United continued knocking on Doma’s door by creating some good scoring chances without finding the back of the net.

However, Nwagua sweeps in the ball pass Kingdom after a cut back from his teammate to put his side ahead in the 19th minute.

Doma United had their chances, and goalkeeper Kingdom Osayi played his part by repelling the host with a string of important saves, but Korvah’s goal with two minutes to end the first half was enough to seal the victory.

Saifullahi and Clement Junior link up well from the right side to create a good opportunity for the Tigers to come back into the game after falling behind, but Junior’s left-footed shot went wide for a goal kick. Immediately after that, Saifullahi made a solo run to beat his marker but his attempted cross was weak and it was cleared once again by Rivers’ defense.

Just when Doma were hunting for an equalizer, Albert Korvah received the ball from the centre, controls with his left, drafted it to his right and volleyed in passed Kingdom to extend the host’s lead.

Akinade ringed some changes immediately after the break with Bidemi and Ufere making way for Emmanuel Luke Ogwuche and Usman Musa. Emmanuel Ogwuche substitution almost paid off after his half volley came off the bar to deny him a goal. The Tigers continued to create some chances with Ogwuche coming closed twice in quick succession but they weren’t enough to make a breakthrough for Doma.

The tigers pushed for a goal towards the end, but it was not enough as the game went Rivers United’s way.
