AKINADE: DOMA UNITED WERE WORTHY WINNERS
Doma United’s Technical Adviser Akinade Onigbinde said he was ‘so pleased’ with his side’s performance against an in-form Bayelsa United side at the Pantami Stadium on Sunday.
The Tigers won 2-1 with the Bayelsa side, who had won three consecutive league games before their visit to Gombe, and Onigbinde believes his side were worthy winners.
“I am very happy with the result. Thank God for the result. I am happy about the game. The boys played well, it was a great performance and we deserve the win” he said.
On the team’s scoring ability, Akinade said “Last time, I told you we were going to work on our goal scoring. During the second half, we wasted more than six glaring goals. We still need to go back and work on that area. The issue is when we were 2 goals ahead, we sat back and that affected us. We need to put more pressure on the teams.”
When asked if it was difficult playing against the in-form Bayelsa United, he added “They have made changes in their team. This is not the team we played in Bayelsa. We have played them twice before today; first was in the super 4 and we played a goalless draw while the other was in the league match, we played 1-1 on their ground. Almost 7 new players started. They have a good team now well settled. We also understand what they are playing. They are playing through wings so we have to talk to our full backs to know how to contain them and the defensive midfielder. That’s how we contained them and absorbed their pressure.”
The gaffer also spoke about the team’s build up play and missed chances “We missed a lot of chances today but what made everybody happy is the build-up to the goal scoring. Our attacking tour is now good and I am happy about that. Our build-up and transition game from defense to attack is very fast and good.”
On if the team is feeling the pressure of been among the top three contenders, the manager said “No pressure. We are calm and good to go. Any team that underrates our team is on its own.”
On our next encounter, Akinade said “I am very happy though we need to prepare against our next match. We are traveling to Abuja to play our FA cup with the team from Anambra. Afterwards, we plan our next match which may be with either Rivers United or Enugu Rangers. We are not sure yet. It depends on how IMC roll it out.”
Doma United will travel to Abuja to face Ozalla FC in the Federation Cup round of 64 on Wednesday 26th April, 2023 at the Goal Project pitch by 2PM.
